12/7/2009 - Transvision begins production of The Station Fire Tragedy
Christopher Toussaint, Producer/Director, has begun production of a one-hour documentary on the events surrounding the August 2009 forest fire in Big Tujunga Canyon north of Los Angeles. The Station Fire Tragedy is a story of real people who underwent life threatening experiences and tremedous loss of property during the worst forest fire in the history of Los Angeles County. Over 90 structures burned to the ground and 2 firefighters lost their lives in a conflagration that consumed 160,000 acres and took over a month to control.
This documentary is being made with the intention that it will assist in the healing process for all of the survivors of this devastating tragedy. This film documents the timeline of what happened from eyewitness reports and, more importantly, unravels the controversial aspects of key decisions made by authorities and homeowners that may have contributed to the situation. Stories of heroism and negligence, motivations and policies, relief efforts and the aftermath are told with the purpose of creating a historical record. It also serves to educate other communities in or adjacent to national and state forests, to learn from mistakes and take preventative measures as governmental budget cuts, regional climate change and drought conditions persist in the coming years.
The producers have already filmed over 5 hours and are seeking funding from various sources. If you would like to contribute any amount, please do so through the Donor page.
